What’s New in Beta Android Editor

What’s New

Well, everything is new! WordPress for Android 7.8 was the first release with the new beta editor codenamed “Aztec”. We’re working through the final stages of getting the editor ready for everyone to use and you’re helping us make it better!

Here are a couple of new features added/fixed in Android 8.9:

  • Added spellcheck suggestions
  • Improved editing around images
  • Fixed undo/redo
  • Improved right-to-left (RTL) support
  • Lots of bug-fixes

Features to Test

  • Paragraphs: splitting the text up, merging paragraphs
  • Images: uploading, deleting, editing the image properties, inserting them inside other block elements
  • Videos: uploading, deleting, playback
  • Quotes: multiple lines, lists inside
  • Lists: adding, editing and deleting embedded lists
  • Try opening older posts in Aztec and compare it to the old editor (we’re looking for visual and UX glitches/differences)
  • Toolbar: opinion of the available/missing buttons and the simple/advanced mode
  • Copy/pasting: styled text from external apps, non-latin characters, emoji, block elements
  • Most importantly: try to use the editor for regular posts and see what bothers you, what’s missing or what’s preventing you from having a good editing experience

We care about bugs, but we also care as much about what could be made easier from a usability point of view. Even if it sounds like a minor tweak, we want to hear from you!

Reporting Bugs

If you’re currently in the beta editor and have tapped the “Beta” button in the post title area, tap the bug button in the navigation bar to open up a help conversation.

If you’re reading this page from outside of the editor you can go through the beta editor route above or send your feedback to [email protected] with a subject line of “Android Beta Editor Feedback”.

If you’re more comfortable with the technical aspect of how we’re tracking the project in GitHub, feel free to log an issue directly there.
