Support Team meetup summary for September 10th

Items discussed at today’s meetup.

WordCamps

At any given time there is a WordCamp and you can read the schedule on WordCamp Central. WordCamps are a great opportunity to meet people you have been collaborating with for years but in person.

Tickets for WordCamp US went on sale and looking at the page today you may be put off. The early bird tickets are sold out but don’t worry, the page says more will be released shortly.

Support is supposed to be fun

Sometimes it’s easy for members of the support team to get a little too engaged and take things personally when someone in the forums gets shirty. I’ve done it (and I’ve regretted it too) so just a reminder: have fun in the support team.

If someone makes you angry then just walk away and ask for help. There’s no obligation for anyone to reply to a topic, though it is very cool when you do. 😉

If you see a topic that’s getting out of hand or you think needs someone else to get involved then please head to the #forums Slack channel and ping myself or one of the other moderators there.

Shortcodes

The proposed shortcode roadmap conversation continues. There’s no changes or decisions being made at this time but be aware that the conversation is continuing.

This is not something that needs any action. But when shortcodes were originally planned it was not anticiapated that people would go from a simple [super-gallery] to something like [download id=123 name=“My Download” title=“
Jan is weird
”].

At some point in the future shortcodes are going to need to be sorted out for security, non-expected output, supportability reasons.
