There was no cake to be had

We just need to adjust our expectations. 🙂 *

Community headlines and updates

As WordPress 5.9 is approaching, it’s time to review the “Master List” post (formerly known as the OMGWTFBBQ post).

In a prior meeting, we discussed eliminating custom titles in the forum user profile. But, it turns out that these are still needed to identify those working on themes, as the theme repository does not yet support the badging that’s currently used for plugins. Proposed: We stop doing custom titles for anyone other than theme support folks.

There was some discussion of TwentyTwentyTwo and how FSE themes will change a lot of what we tell people. For example, “Appearance -> Menus” is gone from the dashboard, and it’s not clear how to do custom CSS. A lot of boilerplate will need adjustment.

There was also some discussion of the warnings when one runs into Akismet driven actions. There’s a trac ticket for this and suggestions are very welcome: https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5263

Open floor

Yoast is hosting a Contributor Day on February 4 and is looking for a Support Team member to “sit at the table” in Zoom. See this comment for details.

The meeting ended more or less on time. *While there was no cake, I offer this picture of a cupcake from my first WordCamp.
