Translating Content on LearnWP

Dion is still working on temporary solutions, knowing that GlotPress will be quite ways out yet. We don’t want to lose momentum on translation work, and hope to get more information soon.

Sources of Info for WordPress 6.0

This post recaps the important information that we can see at this time related to 6.0. Tentatively, Gutenber 12.9 or 13.0 will likely make it into WordPress Core for 6.0. We will know more soon. See this post as a resource to get familiar in the meantime. As we look ahead to the next major release, it’s a good time to review where in the release cycle we start what work. Key dates to note:

  • March 29, 2022 is feature freeze. This is the point at which we can begin assessing everything that would need to be revised or created related to 6.0.
  • April 5, 2022 Walkthrough – A live and moderated review of features slated for the release.
  • April 12, 2022 is tentatively Beta 1 – This is the point where we can begin creating the text of new content
  • May 3, 2022 is tentatively Release Candidate 1 – This is the point where we can safely take screenshots and videos.
  • May 24, 2022 is tentatively 6.0 release day

Stay tuned for a special collaboration session around the feature freeze to assess content needs – including any contributors interested in marketing/docs/training.

Proposal: Faculty Program Structure

Largely we’re awaiting next steps for this to finalize. This subset of the team will vet applications to present, facilitate with subject matter experts, and more.

Courses Guidelines Published

@azhiyadev published the process for developing and adding Courses to Learn. It now lives in the handbook.

Review New Sitemap for HelpHub or Documentation

As the Docs team looks to reorganize their sitemaps @courane01 proposed reopening issue 153 to look at the organization on Learn as well. There is a need for wireframes from volunteers. Some ideas proposed in the meeting:

  • Create a program outline from WordPress 101 or level up to the Masters and PhD levels
  • Consider a “Start Here” button that helps guide people based on their input needs
  • Review how Docs is laid out and aim to be consistent, as well as with Developer
  • Offer badges for completed courses or lesson plans
  • Suggest next courses/lesson plans to take after successful completion

Next steps will be to get a few mock-ups for the Lesson Plans page and a layout with workshop videos embedded in lesson plans.

Time Changes

EMEA/Americas will adjust March 27 (when Europe shifts time). APAC meeting will remain on UTC time.

The next 2 meetings after today, the North Americans will meet at 1PM ET/10AM PT, and we will revise the welcome box when Europe shifts.

Team Badges

@ndiego and @mdburnette received Training Team Badges – thank you both for your contributions!

Trello > GitHub Migration

@courane01 and @mdburnette put in a lot of work to migrate from Trello to the new GitHub location. Some cleanup and workflow optimization is up next. This is a milestone for our 2022 goals.

Needs Analysis

One of the goals is to conduct a needs analysis to define learning experiences, onboard subject matter experts, and optimize site functionality. Anyone with experience drafting a needs analysis survey is welcome to participate.

  3. The topics I picked are huge  and I have some serious time constraints. But not this week!

Open Discussions

@arasae suggested adding social learning spaces to the sprint, @azhiyadev and @courane01 agreed it was a higher priority to finish the monthly sprint since SLS currently live on Meetup. We will continue to optimize the workflows for SLS as they are currently in flux. There is an opportunity to better integrate as Docs sets the foundation, Lesson Plans expand with structure and quizzes, and SLS/Meetups are the practical application of training content. These can be recorded as Workshops or put into a series for Courses.

@paradigm5h1f7 also suggested logging questions from social learning spaces to help refine training content.
