Translating Content on LearnWP

Dion is still working on temporary solutions, knowing that GlotPress will be quite ways out yet. We don’t want to lose momentum on translation work, and hope to get more information soon.

Sources of Info for WordPress 6.0

  • March 29, 2022, is a feature freeze. This is the point at which we can begin assessing everything that would need to be revised or created related to 6.0.
  • April 12, 2022, is tentatively Beta 1 – This is the point where we can begin creating the text of new content
  • May 3, 2022, is tentatively Release Candidate 1 – This is the point where we can safely take screenshots and videos.
  • May 24, 2022, is tentatively 6.0 release day

With eyes on 6.0 coming, @courane01 drafted a simple post linking to the relevant change logs from Gutenberg and reached out to @mamaduka inquiring a rough estimate on what version of Gutenberg will make it in. So far, it might be either Gutenberg plugin version 12.9 or 13, but we will know more soon.

Waiting until Dev Notes reach #core to find what has changed is a bit late in creating release content. We’ll collaborate with #docs and #marketing team for a combined training session for this release, so we would deliver content for 6.0 as well.

In the new schedule for 6.0 there is a walkthrough of expected features on April 5.

Proposal: Faculty Program Structure

Largely we’re awaiting next steps for this to finalize. This subset of the team will vet applications to present, facilitate with subject matter experts, and more.

Courses Guidelines

@azhiyadev has compiled the suggested course guidelines and workflow after communicating with those who have so far created courses. This is a public preview link for you to review. Share any comments you might have in #training.

Time Changes

EMEA/Americas will adjust March 27 (when Europe shifts time). APAC meeting will remain on UTC time.

Guidelines for Approving Social Learning Spaces Facilitators

We are in the process of collecting the entire workflow from application to be a facilitator to hosting an event, including Zoom credentials and procedures. Much of the info is in the handbook, but obviously details like Zoom account login cannot be included there. We are working on systematizing that for a more organized response to applicants.

Sprint

Retrospective February 2022

Each month, the Training team works in Sprints. These are goals we hope to accomplish for that month. At the end of the month, we conduct a retrospective by asking ourselves few questions. For reference, here is last month’s retrospective: Retrospective January 2022.

What went well?

@courane01

  • New contributors
  • Thoughtful reflection on improving 6.0
  • We are 99% ready to migrate Trello > GitHub (more on that later today)
  • Some work toward the annual goals in addition to monthly content goals.

@webtechpooja

  • I’m really pleased to see all the new faces and new contributors
  • Loved to see new faces and contributors are joining in APAC meeting :tada:

@gudrun

  • I did my first real review of a lesson.

@arasae

  • I really like the positive momentum the team is building. It’s hard to quantify, but something is feeling different in a very positive way.

What could we improve?

@courane01

  • Ensuring all content for the month ahead is on the Sprint at the start of the month.
  • Creating more content.
  • When committing to sprint items, setting personally realistic dates for completion and sharing any changes to that commitment if I cannot keep those dates.

@arasae

  • Personally, I need to pick a lane, stick to it, and finish a thing or two. I am juggling a BUNCH of lesson plans and I have a ton of quality content… but it’s on my computer. That helps no one. I am committing to putting quality content out there, faster, even if it is imperfect! That’s what reviews are for, right?

@gudrun

  • I reviewed the CSS lesson, it became apparent that we need to find a way to identify for what version /theme a lesson is. The CSS lesson would not apply to FSE themes.

@Paradigm5h1f7

  • Would love to see a lesson plan for contributing or a beginners guide… there’s so much information I am not sure the best place to jump in :blush:

@nalininonstopnewsuk

  • I would suggest the navigation / UX needs to be looked at in how attendees at APAC can process and interact with so many threads that take them to previous meetings during the actual meeting. (i.e. How can we improve Sprint retrospectives for APAC attendees? Full discussion here)

What will we do differently?

@courane01

  • Ask folks to pick a date to finish tasks volunteered for (myself included) and when dates are missed, ask to recommit or turn it over for others to do.

Trello > GitHub Migration

@mdburnette, one of the #photos moderators, assisted the Training team on migrating from Trello to GitHub. After the Training meeting on March 1, the process began and was successful.

March 2022 Sprint

The March 2022 Team Sprint overview was published by Courtney. This month we’ll be working on this sprint. If anyone would like to pick any topic please comment on the p2 post or drop a message in #training.

Open Discussions

@ndiego put together a proposal for additional Social Learning Spaces in March and moving forward. After a review and team discussion, the first two proposed SLSs were approved will be scheduled for March with the assistance of @arasae.

@gudrun asked about adding an additional labels to identify lessons and where they are applicable, such as FSE versus Classic themes. @courane01 indicated that a standard phrase for pre-FSE would be good to add to lesson plans that are not applicable in an FSE environment.
