Featured Images in Lesson Plans
In terms of layout, we could use the top area of the lesson plan (before the content) for a featured image. We are okay with using: screenshots, slides, or a fallback image as the featured image, as well. For any, the ideal dimensions are 1200 x 628 to accommodate most social media platforms.
Featured images should be used for single lesson plans, but we can use thumbnails for archive pages in the future – @paaljoachim shared that the Query Block may be helpful for this in the future.
We may want to consider translations and accessibility in the future. For example, images with a lot of text may not be easily changed or translatable for other languages, but that will depend on how translations are implemented. For accessibility, @jessplease noted that input from the accessibility team would be helpful for alt text best practices so, for example, the title isn’t repeated twice.
Lesson Plan Format
Originally, lesson plans were written in a script style format, but that has since changed to an outline style. We need some help to review any lesson plans that are still in the script format and update them to the more current, outline style.
Training Team Handbook
We’re still in transition around some tools and processes and, as such, the Training Handbook is out-of-date. It would be helpful for folks to:
- Spend time reading and drafting notes about what should be revised
- What roles may the team need?
- What can we learn from other team handbooks
If you’re interested, there’s a Google Doc in the team channel (not shared publicly to reduce spam edits) to collect thoughts and notes.
Achievements/Announcements
The Creating/Joining WordPress Slack, orientation to channels, and etiquette lesson plan is now live! Props to @geheren for writing, and @camikaos and @geoffgraham for reviewing 🎉
Learn WordPress has also been added to GlotPress/Meta as a project for translation. Currently, translations do not have a way to show on the front end just yet, but there will be more planning to come in the next few days.
Action items
- We can still use feedback and input on @carike‘s post regarding COPPA/children’s privacy on Learn and WordPress.
- Uploading featured images (using the guidelines and dimensions shared above) to lesson plans.
- Reviewing lesson plans to check: which lesson plans are still in the script format and helping to update lesson plans to the outline style.
- Reviewing and providing feedback on the Training Handbook (the Google Doc is shared in the #training channel).
