Unfortunately, I didn’t realize the timeline we had with Meetup.com and thus the need for us to get these done very quickly in order to get more Meetups under the umbrella. Therefore, I’ve prepared these guidelines as a draft for you, the WordPress events community to comment on. I’ll be taking comments here until next Wednesday (13 March 2013) and then will be presenting a proposal to all of the team reps to approve at the end of next week. Proposed guidelines
As an organizer of a WordPress Meetup, I agree to follow these guidelines.
- I agree that WordPress Meetups are meant to benefit the local WordPress community and the broader WordPress community. All actions that I take are with the best interest of the community in mind
- Membership in the local meetup group is open to all who wish to join, regardless of ability, skill, financial status or anything else someone could possibly discriminate on.
- Meetups are volunteer run with volunteer speakers. While a modest fee might be necessary, this fee should only cover the costs of the meetup and shouldn’t be used to pay speakers or organizers
- Meetups are open to events organized by any reliable/trusted member of the community
- Meetups are welcoming places where everyone works to foster an accepting environment which is free of discrimination, incitement to violence, promotion of hate, and general jerk-like behavoir.
