Outreach to WordCamp Mentors

Calling all Community Deputies! Would you be interested in helping me with some outreach to our current roster of WordCamp mentors? With all the changes to the program this past year, it seems timely to check in with our mentors to see if they are still interested in mentoring WordCamps and where we can better support them.

You do need to be a current Community Deputy in order to help with this outreach.

The current plan is to create a survey to centralize our outreach. Deputies will come up with the final questions to ask, but I imagine questions like the following will be included:

  • How many WordCamps have you mentored in the past year?
  • Are you interested in continuing to mentor WordCamps?
  • What kind of resources or training can we provide you with to better support you as a mentor?

After we’ve received responses, we’ll write up a summary for WordCamp mentors, similar to the Community Deputy check-in results and sum-up. As part of this outreach, we will support mentors in offboarding if they no longer want to be a mentor.

I estimate that this will probably take around one to two months to complete, and around 1-2 hours of Deputy time a week. In addition to being a Deputy, it will help if you already have existing relationships with other mentors, but if you don’t, that’s ok too. This is a great exercise for any Deputy who wants to help with outreach. Please let me know if you are interested and available to help by leaving a comment below, or by sending me a DM in Slack. Thanks in advance for your help!
