Notes: Global Marketing Meeting, July 6, 2022

If you are reading these notes on a website other than the Make WordPress Marketing blog, you can add comments directly to the #marketing channel on the Make WordPress Slack or via the team’s blog.

After each item in the meeting notes, there is a link directly to the Slack thread. This will help you join in the discussions and to get more involved. The team may not be aware of comments you add on other sites which replicate the notes.

1. Hello and welcome

These summary notes focus on key items and actions from the meeting and assist with an asynchronous contribution to the Global Marketing Team. For those unable to attend a meeting for whatever reason please join the discussion threads after the meeting and send your updates there.

2. Getting to know each other

  1. Meeting attendees: participants can be viewed in this Slack Thread.
  2. Social question of the week: “I read somewhere that last week it was International Joke Day. So today’s social question is on a similar theme. What would you say to make a friend smile on a difficult day?” View participants’ responses via this Slack thread.

3. Notes and volunteer opportunities

These are the notes from the last meeting on 29 June 2022, thank you @rmartinezduque!

Thank you to our notetaking volunteers for the next few weeks. Please note the guidelines for Notetaking are being updated in the Marketing Team Handbook.

The GitHub card for all aspects of each week’s meeting and any collaboration are linked below by date, where you can add suggestions for the agendas. Please message @nalininonstopnewsuk in the channel if you are unsure how to add comments to the GitHub card.

We are always looking for contributors to open the virtual coffee shop for the bi-weekly coffee break. Check out the GitHub card and add your name to the list. This is a great opportunity for some of our new contributors. Lots of friendly faces to meet!

4. Project updates

The main Marketing Team task board is available on GitHub. If you would like help using GitHub, please reply in the Slack thread. There is help available.

4a. Social media update

Our GitHub issue details how you can help share and amplify WordPress news on social media. You’ll also find a list of the primary WordPress social accounts there.

This is also a good first task for new contributors. You can get started participating in our online conversations and/or contributing content to one of our active campaigns.

We had another successful week with the social campaigns for .Org. While WP6 is still strong with campaigns highlighting features, etc, we did see other campaigns such as WP Briefing and Photos Directory share the spotlight this week in terms of overall performance.

Even though we are several weeks outside of the release window for 6.0, we haven’t yet seen our average new followers count drop to their usual levels. We even increased slightly from last week and totalled 926 new followers across all channels. Here are the weekly stats:

  • Impressions:  275,862
  • Engagements:  4,477
  • Link Clicks: 1,231
  • Messages:  26

4c. Contributor events update

With WordCamp US approaching in September, it would be nice to start a list of who plans to attend. General admission tickets went on sale on June 30th and have already sold out. If you couldn’t get yours, the organizing team recommends checking the site periodically to see if any become available. If you got your ticket and plan to attend specifically for contributor day, please let us know in this thread!

4d. Newsletters, campaigns, and event updates

5. Diary/Calendar dates

Our next Coffee break will be Thursday 14 July 2022 at 18:30/6.30 PM UTC and still needs a facilitator. Add your name to the list in this GitHub card if you would like to volunteer.

This bi-weekly social coffee break is held by the Make Marketing team for all WordPress Marketing contributors, and occasional guests. Stop by and meet some of the friendly faces marketing WordPress.

Follow this Google Calendar with meetings, collaborations, and social activities. We also list important dates in this Forthcoming Diary Dates post.

6. Open floor

If you have an update on a task that is not mentioned above, please share. Anyone is able to add a comment to a GitHub task card – you just need a GitHub user ID.

@eidolonnight asked the channel what everyone thinks of the current team description in our welcome box and handbook. Add your thoughts to the Slack thread.
