When your video is ready and approved by the Training Team, you can upload it to WordPress.TV, using this form.
- Fill in the Video title, Language, and Date Recorded fields.
- Leave the Location field as the default.
- For the Category field, only check the box that says “Learn WordPress.”
- Enter your WordPress.org username and your name as the Speaker.
- Delete the automated entry under the Event field.
- Enter the Description of the Lesson.
- You can add a link to your slides if you want.
- Finally, choose the video file to upload.
Once the video is uploaded, it will need to be published. You can ping the @tt-admins Slack group to assist with getting it published.
Once it is published, add subtitles to the video, following the WordPress.tv guidelines.
Adding chapter markers for your video
Once a video has been published to WordPress.tv, it is also added to the WordPress YouTube channel. One of the benefits of it being hosted on YouTube is that creators can add chapter markers to videos, allowing viewers to easily skip to the content they want to see.
Fortunately, adding chapter markers to YouTube videos is as easy as adding a list of sections with the appropriate timestamp. For example:
00:00 Introduction
00:11 Setting up your pages
1:10 Setting your home page display
2:23 Setting up your posts
3:38 Setting up your navigation menu
6:18 Setting up your site logo
6:45 Adding your navigation menu to your footer
7:35 Selecting a style
8:15 Adding content
By adding these chapter markers to the YouTube video on Setting up your pages, posts, site logo and navigation menu, YouTube automatically creates the chapter navigation for the video.
To ensure that the team who will eventually publish your video to YouTube can quickly grab the chapter markers, please add them to a comment in the GitHub issue for your lesson.
Upload the thumbnail graphic you created to the GitHub issue for your lesson so it can also be added to YouTube as the video’s thumbnail.
