Hosting Test: The Profiles

During WordCamp Europe 2024, we began planning a new plugin designed to collect and centralize JSON data from hosting companies. The goal is to provide users with a comprehensive overview of hosting companies based on their specific requirements. However, during the Contributor Day at WordCamp US 2024, we discussed the potential for utilizing existing resources before starting development on a new plugin from scratch.

Making Use of the Hosting Test Reporter

Currently, the hosting test requires hosts to create a WP.org account associated with their company. In the past, we also planned to display an overview of each host’s testing reports with the release of multi-PHP reporting. By building on this existing structure, we have an opportunity to avoid duplicating efforts and leverage the groundwork that’s already been laid.

The Profile Page Concept

Our new idea is to extend the functionality of these WP.org accounts by creating profile pages for bot users who are actively submitting reports. These profile pages could not only summarize their latest reports but also offer space for self-promotion. By doing this, we’re able to repurpose and expand upon the current infrastructure, simplifying the process of achieving our original goal of providing users with a hosting overview.

Please add your feedback to this P2 by the end of October. This will allow us enough time to distill the feedback and plan accordingly for 2025.
