Translating the Interface

Translate your Rosetta site

When first created, your local WordPress.org site will have an interface and contents in US English.

To have a localized, fully translated site in your language, you need to translate these two translation projects in the same way you translate WordPress itself.

Translate your Support Forum site

If you want your local forums to be in your language, translate all strings in the Local Forum project and bbPress project, then request the forums to be created for your locale on Polyglots P2.

Why can’t I edit some of the pages on my Rosetta site?

Static pages such as “Downloads“, “Releases“, and those under the “About” section can only be translated through the WordPress.org project.

Strings in some other pages including “Contact” and “Blog Archive” are available for translating in the Rosetta project.

These translations will be localized once they are approved and deployed.

When can I see my translation live?

The translations of the interface of your local site get deployed automatically once every 24 hours (once per day at 23:00 UTC). After you’ve translated the Rosetta project to 100%, wait for the automatic deploy to see them on the website.

Who can make changes to the local WordPress site contents?

To make changes in the pages, add blog posts, or add showcase projects, you need to be added as an Editor of that local website by one of the Locale Managers. To find your Locale Manager, go to the polyglots Teams page and click the “View Team Page” link for your locale.
