My questions:
1. What creative things do you do to attract more translators and keep them engaged?
2. And any other tips for mentoring and training G/PTEs?
Even some links to your resource pages will be helpful!
Background
In the last Polyglots Weekly Chat #1 (Asia-Pacific timezone), @imnok said she wanted to hear some ideas for growing their Thai team. I got curious too and wanted to hear ideas from other communities.
@petya pointed out that we have a page in Polyglots Handbook around growing a local community in general, but it’s not specific to translation.
I’m thinking about compile ideas and create a new reference page for growing translation communities.
Examples
Some things we do in the Japanese community:
- Translate the “Get Involved” and Translation First Steps pages
- Have a translation specific channel on local SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/ and answer questions
- WordPress Translation (overview) page on local Codex
- Always have a Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/ at WordCamps and onboard new translators
Looking forward to learning what everyone is doing.
