From this week on, the weekly design meetings occur on Wednesday 17.00 UTC. You can find this week’s design meeting transcript here on Slack, or jump to different topic discussions by using the links in the document following.
Housekeeping
- Can we post meeting times in just one place?
We have a discussion on where all the times are mentioned and are looking for an easier way of keeping the info in sync but visible for people in an easy way.
@boemedia is now updating the meeting times where necessary and will create an overview of where to edit. We briefly discuss the findability of https://make.wordpress.org/meetings/ and the way it’s presented. There are tickets for improving this page to be a calendar, but we don’t go into this too deep. - Gathering onboarding feedback
If everyone can add their thoughts to this document, it will allow us to learn from each others experience contributing: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MagB7v9SK6SDnMb1nqc6jrYQ9Fs6y82Utn2jkWRbTp4/edit?usp=sharing - Add fonts as resources
Looks like the fonts are there, and just need to be added to the handbook. - Using trac
We’d like to make it easier for first time contributors to do stuff. Integrating the trac guide would help.
Triage Inbox
- Create A Blog: Copy & Wireframe
This is a priority task just looking for someone to own it. During the meeting, we’ve clarified what is needed from a designer and updated the card on Trello with more information. This call for design will take a bit of reading, but if you have ideas on how to make this future page for WordPress.org visually appealing, please go ahead and own this project. - Audit content of handbook
Currently, the handbook doesn’t have a clear and usable structure. To improve this, we started a document to audit the handbook. @boemedia will start working on this, but if anyone else is happy to join, please do.
Calls for design
- PHP Meeting is revived
It was a bit confusing, since this ticket asked for both design feedback on the widget that will appear in the WP-admin dashboard, as well as the page the widget leads to.
From @flixos90: I’m not sure if this fits in your meeting today, so please let me or the #core-php channel know when there’s time for it. We’re also around to help with contextual questions of course. For feedback, please comment on the meta ticket for the page https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3609
We discussed this call for design in today’s meeting, but it still needs some clarification: has core given feedback on the original design of February 2? Design questions are: What color is good? What icons to use? What illustrations could help?
Should it match the rest of wp?
