Design Challenge weekend info

As said before here this week is the design challenge weekend – 13th and 14th December. Things will kick off this week with 3 sessions this week:

Design challenge weekend learning sessions

Design challenge weekend extra learning session

Lets re-cap a bit. We have some goals for this weekend:

  • Raise the design standard of the WordPress.org theme repo.
  • Matching up developers to designers.
  • Encouraging designers to create themes.
  • Offering resources for designers to learn to make themes.
  • Educating developers in design.
  • Get some kicking themes up in the repo!

Things will kick off with 3 blog posts going up on this blog:

  1. Designers looking for developers.
  2. Developers looking for designers.
  3. Designers doing it for themselves.

Then you get working on a theme! As the weekend progresses you can add in your comment leaving the theme you are working. It can be a full theme, partial, visual or html/CSS mockups – the choice is yours. The idea is we get to link people up too. So, if you see a developer looking for a designer you can contact them.

There will be people in around Slack on #themereview the entire weekend to help with design critiques. We also will be having 4 planned blocks so you can be sure to get someone. These will run at the following times both on the Saturday and Sunday:

But, you can drop in and ask at any time too!

It would be great to see as many people as possible in Slack and really try and create or start creating some awesome themes this weekend. I know I’ll be working on one and look forward to seeing what others are!

As this is our first weekend like this we may adjust things as the weekend goes, but we’ll keep you posted throughout.
