Gutenberg + Themes Highlights
Gutenberg 9.4 has been released. Look for the release post later today. It includes a handful of enhancements to FSE blocks and global styles as listed here:
https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/releases/tag/v9.4.0-rc.1
There’s a theme experiments PR to explore the minimum amount of boilerplate code needed fo a block-based theme:
https://github.com/WordPress/theme-experiments/pull/81
This PR has spun out a series of Gutenberg issues. All could use additional discussion:
- Consider enqueing stylesheets in experimental-theme.json.
- Moving theme supports to experimental-theme.json.
- Provide a way for Gutenberg to provide alignment styles for the front end.
Twenty Twenty-One Blocks
The theme has seen improvements since the last meeting: post meta blocks have been added to the templates, a footer template has been added, and alignment widths now match the original theme:

The bulk of the remaining updates are around the need to sync up the appearance of core blocks with their versions in the original Twenty Twenty-One theme: https://github.com/WordPress/theme-experiments/issues/82
