What is the Design Team?
The design group is focused on designing WordPress.
How to get involved?
Are you interested in joining the Design team? Great! The team is open to anyone who wants to help out, but we do it a little differently than other teams. Here are some guidelines to help you find a spot that fits your skills:
- The design team doesn’t meet regularly because we function better as part of other teams. In the past a designer interested in accessibility, for instance, would have to attend a meeting for design and another for accessibility. Nowadays, if accessibility is your main interest, a contributor can meet with the accessibility team and learn how to apply their design skills to better support that team’s work.
- We still communicate asynchronously in the Slack design channel but the chatter is minimal.
- A good place to start contributing to the design and user experience side of things, is to look into the Gutenberg repo in GitHub, use labels Needs Design Feedback or Needs Design.
- We recommend that you attend meetings with other teams and find out if they need designers. Did you know that the community team sometimes needs help in designing and creating sites for smaller WordCamps? And the meta team would appreciate any feedback on the WordCamp template.
